The Elliott School of International Affairs offers dual degree programs that include any ESIA bachelor's degree and any ESIA master’s degree, excluding the master of international policy and practice and master of international studies degrees.
The program allows students to take up to 10 graduate credits as part of their undergraduate program, thereby decreasing the number of credits normally required for the master of arts degree. Undergraduate students enroll in graduate courses as part of their undergraduate program of study. Students must complete their undergraduate degree requirements, plus all prerequisites for the master’s degree, before beginning the graduate program. All requirements for both degrees must be fulfilled.
The dual degree program does not permit transfer credits from other institutions or programs, with the sole exception that credits earned through GW study abroad programs can be transferred to the BS program included in the dual degree. Up to 10 study abroad credits can be transferred if the graduate program included in the dual degree is a 40-credit MA program and up to 7 study abroad credits can be transferred if the graduate program is the 30-credit MA or MS program in international economic policy. Transfer credits can be accepted only under limited conditions, including length of time since the courses in question were completed, grades earned, and relevance to the student’s program.
