The following requirements must be fulfilled: 17 credits in core course, 13 to 16 credits in elective courses, and a 3- to 6-credit culminating experience. Two options are offered for the culminating experience: A 6-credit mentored thesis seminar and project, or a 3- to 6-credit internship and successful completion of a written comprehensive exam

1PUBH 6080 Pathways to Public Health is a 0-credit, no cost course that must be completed within the first year of matriculation in the program. Students who earned a prior degree from a Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited school or program of public health can waive this requirement.
2EXNS 6998 Thesis Research is a 3-credit course. Students completing a thesis must register for a total of 6 credits over two semesters. Students completing a thesis can also register for EXNS 6233 Graduate Internship as an elective.
3EXNS 6233 is a variable-credit course. Students must register for a total of 3 credits, which can be completed over multiple semesters. Students can register for a maximum of 6 credits but credits beyond 3 will count toward the elective requirement. Successful completion of a comprehensive examination is required as part of this culminating experience option.
SPH MS graduation requirements
- Graduate credit requirement: Successful completion of 36 graduate credits.
- Curriculum: Successful completion of required courses.
- Grade-point requirement: A minimum program grade-point average of 3.0 (B average).
- Time limit requirement: The degree must be completed within five years.
- Culminating experience: Successful completion of a culminating experience (e.g., thesis, final project, internship, and comprehensive exam).
- CITI training requirement: All students are required to complete training regarding human subject protection regulation and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
- Integrity quiz and plagiarism requirement: All students are required to review the George Washington University Code of Academic Integrity and take the SPH Academic Integrity Quiz within their first semester of study.
- Professional enhancement requirement: Students must participate in eight hours of public health-related lectures, seminars, and symposia, related to their field of study.
