Minor in Music | The George Washington University

The minor in music is designed for students who wish to add to their experience, skills, and knowledge of music but who are not ready to commit to a major in music. Students in the minor program are eligible to enroll in private studio lessons* and are able to customize their academic path to suit their interests by participating in ensembles and by selecting from courses in theory, composition, history, ethnomusicology, and electronic and computer music.

This Bulletin covers the degree requirements for students matriculating in the current academic year. Students who matriculated before the current year can find their requirements in the relevant archived Bulletin.

The following requirements must be fulfilled: 18 credits, including one 3-credit required course, 3 credits in upper-level academic elective courses, and 12 elective credits in other Music (CMUS) elective courses.

All students in the minor program are expected to attend departmental lectures, master classes, and concerts, as appropriate.
