Minor in Music | The George Washington University

The minor in music is designed for students who wish to add to their experience, skills, and knowledge of music but who are not ready to commit to a major in music. Students in the minor program are eligible to enroll in private studio lessons* and are able to customize their academic path to suit their interests by participating in ensembles and by selecting from courses in theory, composition, history, ethnomusicology, and electronic and computer music.

The following requirements must be fulfilled: 18 credits, including one 3-credit required course and 15 credits in elective courses.

5 to 6 credits in courses taken from among the CMUS 1100, CMUS 2100, and CMUS 3100 course number ranges; only one course in the CMUS 1100 range can be counted toward this requirement.
9 to 10 credits taken in any Music (CMUS) courses, including academic, performance study, and ensemble courses.

All students in the minor program are expected to attend departmental lectures, master classes, and concerts, as appropriate.
