Minor in Arabic Studies

Meeting the diverse academic and professional career demands of GW students while maintaining a leading status in the field of Arabic studies in the US, GW’s Arabic Studies program specializes in literature, translation, media, and business. Graduates of the Arabic Studies program have an authentic and proficient knowledge of the Arabic language and culture as well as a myriad of opportunities. Students have embarked on career paths as diplomats and Foreign Service Officers, government language analysts, translators, and consultants through international organizations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, Amnesty International, the World Health Organization, and the United Nations.

GW also prepares our graduates to expand their Arabic competency by practicing in areas such as history, comparative linguistics, Semitics, religion, political science, and international trade.

This Bulletin covers the degree requirements for students matriculating in the current academic year. Students who matriculated before the current year can find their requirements in the relevant archived Bulletin.

The following requirements must be fulfilled: 21 credits, including 15 credits in required courses and 6 credits in elective courses. In addition, the student must meet the language prerequisite of ARAB 1001 Beginning Arabic I  and ARAB 1002 Beginning Arabic II.
