Minor in Sociology

A minor in Sociology pairs well with students majoring in Political Science; Psychology; History; Geography; Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Public Health; Business; and Engineering. The highly flexible curriculum includes two core courses that first introduce students to the “sociological imagination” and how it connects to public issues like race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, inequality, and education, and then provide theoretical tools for analyzing key historical and contemporary issues in society. The remaining 12 credits can be chosen from electives that include Class and Inequality in the U.S., Sociology of Sex and Gender, Sociology of Immigration, Deviance and Control, Race and Minority Relations, and Social Movements. 

Criminal Justice majors may not pursue a minor in Sociology.

The following requirements must be fulfilled:

Achievement of a minimum grade of C- in any course that counts toward the minor.

18 credits, including 6 credits in required courses and 12 credits in elective courses.

Note: A student majoring in sociology may not declare a second major or a minor in criminal justice, or vice versa.
