Supervised clinical experience in transfusion medicine and serology. Proctor fee.
Upon successful completion of the practicum courses within the MLS program, the student will:

1. Develop procedures for collecting, processing, and analyzing biological specimens and other substances;
2. Perform analytical tests of body fluids, cells, and other substances;
3. Integrate data generated by the various clinical laboratory departments while making decisions regarding possible discrepancies;
4. Confirm abnormal blood bank test results
5. Execute quality control blood bank procedures
6. Develop solutions to problems concerning the generation of blood bank laboratory data
7. Make decisions concerning the results of quality control and quality assurance measures
8. Institute proper blood bank procedures to maintain accuracy and precision
9. Establish preventive and corrective maintenance of blood bank equipment and instruments as well as identify appropriate sources for repairs
10. Evaluate techniques, instruments and methods in terms of their usefulness and practicality within the blood bank laboratory
11. Demonstrate professional conduct and interpersonal skills with patients, laboratory personnel, other health care professionals, and the public;
12. Provide leadership within the blood bank lab with regard to educating other health personnel and the community
13. Exercise principles of management, safety, and supervision within the blood bank laboratory
14. Apply principles of educational methodology and principles of current information systems within the blood bank laboratory.
