Issues in STEM research and education. Topics vary by semester. May be repeated for credit if topic differs. Consult the Schedule of Classes for more details.
As a result of successfully completing this course, students will be able to: 1. Discuss basic ideas, concepts, and trends relating to the STEM research and education topics begin studied. 2. Synthesize material from different subfields of STEM Education in order to address current problems and potential solutions; 3. Apply their knowledge of STEM content and pedagogy to contemporary problems with which they do not have prior experience.
The topics may be of interest to students in other STEM programs, including social science and humanities, but the emphasis is on specific areas of interest to students in STEM research and education. No other course at GW combines those two aspects.
Course Attribute

For the GWTeach program, this topics course will allow us to respond to current and emerging topics of interest to students in the program. Another purpose is to support the Minor in STEM Teaching by allowing students to combine the two-credit LA Pedagogy course with the one-credit topics course as an option for completing 3 credits toward the Minor.
