Sensor/camera design and analysis as a system. Detection and noise processes underlying the sensing of optical radiation; the engineering and physics of image formation. Topics covered include radiometry/photometry, optics and image formation, device and camera characterization, and image quality metrics and system design trades.
1. Explore sensor/camera design and analysis as a system (from photon-in to photon-out); examining topics in: radiometry/photometry, optics, spectral phenomena, sampling and reconstruction, and image formation, displays and human vision. 2. Develop an understanding of photodetector basics 3. Develop an understanding of noise processes in imaging 4. Introduce the different photodetector types (Color thru infrared) 5. Examine photodetector, focal plane array, and camera figures-of-merit 6. Develop an understanding of image quality measures
