Students work directly with a multidisciplinary health care or research team and patients and apply the knowledge and skills acquired from coursework in a clinical environment. Internships take place at pre-approved clinical sites, usually in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and students are supervised by an on-site clinical instructor.
1. Students will demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to perform various clinical assessments and be able to process the data from such assessments as part of a comprehensive patient assessment. 2. Students will demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to develop safe and effective exercise prescriptions and supervise exercise training sessions. 3. Students will apply selected theories of social and behavior change to help effect lifestyle changes to reduce risk factor profiles for selected chronic diseases. 4. Students will demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the basic fundamentals of the resting and exercise electrocardiogram.
