BME 3915, BME 4920, and BME 4925 are taken in sequence by departmental majors beginning in the second semester of the junior year. After an introduction to the formal design process, the student plans, refines, designs, and constructs a one-year project. Includes a significant engagement in writing as a form of critical inquiry and scholarly expression to satisfy the WID requirement.
1. Understand more advanced issues, concepts and procedures in engineering practice such as various graphical representations of team-based design, cost and time estimation, budgeting, and finally, cost and time tracking (including Gantt Charts, Module Matrices, burn rate, cumulative expenditure, estimated and predicted expenditures), etc… 2. Select and execute design verification procedures appropriate to the project 3. Prepare and deliver the traditional documentation and team-based oral presentations for the middle of an engineering project (e.g., Preliminary, Critical& Final Design Reviews) 4. Where applicable, use OrCAD to design printed circuit boards and/or AutoCAD to design mechanical components.
