Overview of clinical medicine with emphasis on those areas most affected by engineering and technology.
At the end of the course students will:
1. Have a comprehensive view of contemporary application of engineering products
and methodologies in different clinical specialties.
2. Know how to translate specific needs expressed by clinicians in various
specialties into a design of a biomedical device or system that can effectively
address these needs.
3. Understand the tradeoffs that need to be taken into account when designing a
biomedical device or system as related to patient outcomes, physician training
requirements, regulatory requirements, cost, medical insurance coverage, etc.
