An examination of the stages of family life: birth, childhood, premarital relationships, marriage and sex roles in marriage, retirement and old age. Special emphasis on development and maintenance of interpersonal relations.
(1) Think and write critically about complex issues involved in family patterns, organization and formation (2) Assess methodological implications of data (the portrayal of families) (3) Apply sociological theory to analyze everyday family issues and problems (4) Understand the relationship between norm construction and family dynamics (5) Demonstrate ideas in well-developed, cogent written work and conversation (6) Develop creativity and confidence as scholars
