Editing, design, layout, and photo selection for newspapers, magazines, and web. Selecting and editing stories; writing headlines and photo captions; sizing and cropping graphic materials; laying out pages. Ethics of editing.
As a result of completing this course, students will be able to: 1. Recognize and define the many different elements found on a publication page. 2. Design a newspaper page by drawing a dummy on paper. 3. Use the computer program InDesign to create publication pages. 4. Choose photos for publication and crop photos. 5. Analyze the design of a newspaper. 6. Analyze and compare a newspaper’s print edition and the paper’s web edition.
