Introduction to the U.S. health services financing and delivery system with a focus on the major components of the system, the interaction of elements of the system, and the history of the development of today’s system. Addresses the national context and history of health services, population health and health care spending in the US, employment-based health insurance, Medicaid and the uninsured, Medicare, international health care systems, managed care, hospitals and facilities, physicians and health workforce, long-term care and prescription drugs, and health care reform.
