This course provides the doctoral student with a comprehensive orientation to the frameworks, principles and issues involved in assessing, managing and communicating environmental health risks. This fundamental, interdisciplinary course is designed to foster dialogue and insights about contemporary risk science and management issues, including ethical concerns and technical issues that influence policy making.
• Analyze risk assessments to understand the key scientific and analytic data, assumptions and choices influencing estimates of risk • Synthesize data and information from diverse disciplines and sources to characterize risk problems and identify appropriate public health responses • Understand current science policy issues related to the conduct and application of risk assessment approaches • Debate ethical concerns with environmental health risk issues and professional responsibilities of risk assessors, communicators, and managers
