Fundamentals of accounting from a publisher's perspective; accounting and financial reporting for a publisher's operating results and what these results mean in terms of financial success and viability.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have developed the ability to:
- Analyze and evaluate an entity's financial statements including footnotes.
- Understand product profit and loss reporting including direct and indirect costing. This knowledge will be key to analyzing product acquisitions and dispositions.
- Understand the difference between cash flow from operations and accrual accounting and how integral this is in a publishing environment.
- Perform initial research regarding accounting and financial issues, formulating conclusions, and how best to proceed when further information is necessary.
- Understand the auditing, tax, and financial reporting processes and requirements.
