Plant metabolism and molecular biology: photosynthesis, nitrogen metabolism, membrane transport, mechanisms of hormone action, protein targeting, biotechnology, and current research topics.
• Describe the functional significance of the anatomical features of land plants. • Demonstrate knowledge of representative plant families and crop species. • Explain solar powered metabolism and water/solute movements in plants. • Understand plants’ reproductive mechanisms • Articulate how plants respond to environmental changes, insects, fungi, bacteria, viruses, etc. • Analyze and summarize research literature, experimental strategies in plant biology. • Work with other students to make oral presentations concerning plant biology research.
