Introduction to genetics, with emphasis on the integration of transmission of genetic traits and the molecular basis of gene action. Also includes cytogenetics, gene regulation, and examples of current applications of genetic technology.
1. Understand the main principles of general genetics. 2. Be knowledgeable about the molecular concepts and terminology in the course. 3. Understand the role genetics plays in other biological fields, including medicine. 4. Be conversant in the bioethical and societal arguments around various genetic issues and controversies.
