Philosophy of science as applied to research in public policy and public administration. The nature of and current problems related to epistemology, development and role of theories, and relationships among theory, methodology, and empirical data. Credit for this course may be applied toward the dissertation credit requirement.
1. To stimulate and raise awareness of the relation between philosophical concerns and social science research 2. To surface implicit assumptions that underlie scholarly traditions 3. To develop the students' ability to engage in critical and reflective appreciation of public policy and public administration scholarship.
