The history and development of cytology; role and ethical practices of the cytotechnologist in the health care system. Basic cell structure and function with detailed microscopic study of normal squamous, endocervical, and endometrial epithelial cells, as well as other non epithelial cells and contaminants. Principles of microscopy, Kohler illumination, use and maintenance of the microscope.
