The use of the visual arts to enhance personal development and growth; illustrated lectures, readings, discussion, and studio work presented by experts in the field. Instruction is delivered online via Blackboard. No previous art experience is necessary.
As a result of completing this course, students will be able to: • Describe foundational aspects of Art Therapy, the theories and techniques behind each, and the professional and ethical uses of Art Therapy—as evidenced in Blackboard weekly assignments, journal entries and final project. • Analyze how experts in the field of Art Therapy utilize various techniques with different populations—as evidenced in Blackboard weekly assignments, journal entries and final project. • Illustrate the need for self-awareness, multi-cultural competence, and professionalism in the field of Art Therapy and begin to explore their own self-awareness, utilizing the techniques described—in Blackboard weekly assignments, paper, visual journal entries and final project.
