Planning, conducting, and evaluating relevant methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative approaches and basic statistics; the importance of research in the psychotherapy professions; ethical and legal considerations; and the use of research to assess effectiveness of mental health and art therapy services.
As a result of taking this course students should be able to:
-Synthesize the inter-relationship between theory, practice, and science by applying methods of data collection and analysis, interpretation, and reporting results
-Evaluate the purpose, benefits, and challenges of conducting art therapy research to become proficient researchers
-Apply critical analysis to research studies and program evaluations of art therapy and mental health programs
-Apply knowledge of the requirements of laws, regulations, and GW’s Office of Human Research (OHR) pertaining to the ethics of human subjects research.
