Authentic scripted and audiovisual materials from various contemporary Arab media outlets including television and radio newscast and cultural programs, newspaper and magazine articles, and the Internet.
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to do the following at the advanced level:
1. Extract facts, draw inference, or understand nuances and author's intent from a variety of media sources, particularly those related to the broad topics covered in the course outline.
2. Comprehend news and master the use of Arabic journalese.
3. Express and support opinions with facts and sharpen debate skills.
4. Write and present news reports about specific occurrences/events/topics using appropriate language register and formulaic style of news reporting.
