Linear equations, matrices, inverses, and determinants. Vector spaces, rank, eigenvalues, and diagonalization. Applications to geometry and ordinary differential equations. Credit cannot be earned for both MATH 2184 and MATH 2185.
After completing this course, students will be able to: • Perform matrix operations and compute matrix inverses, determinants, and eigenvalues. • Identify and formulate the linear algebraic content in various applied contexts. • Apply matrix algebra and the concepts of vector spaces and linear transformations to solve problems involving linear systems of equations. • Convert back-and-forth between matrix representations and geometric representations of problems involving linear systems of equations.
