Reformation and Counter-Reformation; conflict with the Ottoman Empire; great-power competition in Europe; response to the Enlightenment and the French Revolution; the rise of nationalism; and final dissolution in World War I. Includes a significant engagement in writing as a form of critical inquiry and scholarly expression to satisfy the WID requirement.
