A service-learning course that combines classroom instruction with practical learning. Students work with interior designers, architects, or industry-related professionals to provide a creative and realistic solution to the challenges of a pro-bono design project within the local community. Course concepts cover issues related to the practice of a professional interior designer, including business procedures, legal implications, ethics, trade relations, and designer-client-contractor relations.
As a result of completing this course, students will be prepared to assess professional responsibilities, understand the specifics of professional relationships, have in-depth understanding of and be able to compose documents applicable to the professional practice. In addition, students will become familiar with the job search process, and defend their knowledge through a submission of an identity package, and other verbal and written required communication.
