Human and environmental geography of Africa south of the Sahara desert, including study of patterns and processes, culture and environment, and development issues.
1. Become familiar with the boundaries, landforms, climate patterns and historical patterns of settlement for Africa south of the Sahara (hereafter referred to as Africa); 2. Gain a working knowledge of contemporary political and social issues in Africa; 3. Acquire a nuanced understanding of African cultures and lifeways; and 4. Demonstrate a fluency about development challenges for particular regions of Africa.
