Low earth orbit and geostationary satellite systems; transmission systems; RF link budgets; modulation and multiplexing; multiple access techniques, including FDMA, TDMA, and CDMA; satellite transponders, antennas, and earth stations.
Students who completed the course will be able to:
1.) Characterize and quantify the key parameters that determine the performance of a satellite communications network
2.) Analyze the performance of satellite transmission systems operating in various parts of the electromagnetic spectrum
3.) Determine the capacity to transmit information over a satellite channel of given bandwidth
4.) Determine the quality of signals received over a satellite transmission systems
5.) Understand the characteristics of the interface between satellite and terrestrial networks
