Architectural advances and instruction sets for embedded microprocessors. Real-time operating systems and real-time scheduling, use of pre-designed software and hardware cores. Sensors, actuators, and data acquisition. System-on-chip (SoC). Design case studies.
As a result of completing this course, students will be able to:
1. Design an application specific digital system or system on chip
2. Implement the system using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and/or Microcontrollers
3. Understand how to interface digital systems to sensors and actuators
4. Hardware/Software co-design and co-scheduling issues
