Program majors take ECE 3915, ECE 4920, and ECE 4925 in sequence beginning in the second semester of their junior year. After an introduction to the formal design process, the student plans, refines, designs, and constructs a one-year project. Includes a significant engagement in writing as a form of critical inquiry and scholarly expression to satisfy the WID requirement.
As a result of completing this course, students will be able to:
1. Submit viable implementation plans such as PCB layout files and AutoCAD drawings for mechanical parts.
2. Design and execute test procedures appropriate to the particular project.
3. As a team, integrate the various major systems comprising the project, e.g., electrical, mechanical, optical, chemical, etc.
4. Prepare and deliver the traditional documentation and oral presentations for the post-design phase of an engineering project (e.g., BFD (and BOM), Progress Reports, Engineering Change Notices, and Final Product Review) utilizing the tools and procedures described above as applied to their own project
