Advanced topics in computer architecture and design; instruction-level parallelism, thread-level parallelism, memory, multithreading, and storage systems.
At the end of the course, students can expect to:
(1) know about the fundamentals of quantitative design and analysis in computer architecture
(2) have an in-depth understanding of memory hierarchy and parallelism at different levels (instruction, data, thread)
(3) develop an understanding of newer paradigms like warehouse scale computing
(4) have hands-on experience on computer architecture simulators (e.g., sesc)
