Goals vary by topic. • Explain the complexity of African American identity formation and historical experience • Develop incisive arguments and sophisticated analysis about the African American experience using historical, cultural, and social texts • Craft concise, compelling, and coherent essays • Apply analytic and critical strategies to cultural objects and archival material • Analyze and evaluate conflicting interpretations of the African American experience.
