This course will review fundamental painting approaches and introduce further experimentationand development of formal, technical, and conceptual aspects of painting. We will explore bothcurrent and historical painting practices, and investigate the concepts of observation,representation, abstraction, and conceptual thought as sources for our work. Discussionregarding scale, supports, surface preparation, color, and the manipulation of paint as materialsand their impact on content and expression will be explored. Students will be encouraged to workfrom self-direction and self-motivation, and will begin to develop a personal language of contentand expression.
