This senior elective will serve to develop the participant's skills in clinical practice innovation, quality improvement and/or entrepreneurship with the long-term goal of being able to conduct a similar project independently after graduation, during residency, or as an actively practicing physician. Students must participate in a project pertaining to one of these areas for a minimum of 4-weeks. Due to the nature of experiences in these domains, it is expected that activities related to this elective may have begun earlier and may extend throughout the senior year. However, written materials must be submitted within 4 weeks of the end of the 4-week period in order to receive credit for the course.
Students should identify a mentor (or organization with a specific contact individual) for their project and have an explicit, detailed project plan for the 4-week elective that will describe 32 or more per week of work. This must be submitted to the Course Directions and be approved before starting the elective. This should also include a signed letter of support from the mentor.
The purpose of the course is to develop the participant's skills in clinical practice innovation, quality improvement and/or entrepreneurship. It fulfills the requirement for students enrolled in the CPIE scholarly concentration.
