Students completing an extra-mural Family Medicine Acting Internship in a predominantly inpatient, family medicine service will be able to:

Perform a complete and accurate history and physical exam in patients of varying ages, diagnoses, and complexity on an inpatient service.
Demonstrate the development of an evidence-based assessment and treatment plan for patients admitted to the hospital, including discharge planning.
Demonstrate effective oral and written case presentation skills for new patients and follow up care.
Interpret the value of various tests and procedures in the work-up of a hospitalized patient.
Apply medical standards, clinical practice guidelines and practice algorithms relevant to patients' medical conditions.
Demonstrate the ability to navigate through specialty consultations, care management services, and discussions with other health care providers across disciplines and health professions to ensure appropriate care coordination and transitions of care.
Demonstrate appropriate professional and ethical behaviors related to patients and other health care professionals.
Demonstrate empathic patient-centered communication when interpreting management plans, risks/benefits, end-of-life care, treatments and behavioral changes with patients and medical personnel.
