• Understand the meaning of education policy in public education and its importance
• Describe the basic functions of government and the roles of federal, state, and local agencies in education policy
• Understand how politics and political action shape the formation and implementation of educational policy
• Understand the social, cultural, and political forces shaping the evolution of contemporary education programs and institutions
