Big data, its properties, technology, and the types and classes of analytics that can be applied to it; associated storage and programming systems. Students gain practical experience through focused projects to apply different analytics to a data set.
1. Understand the nature of Big Data, including issues and challenges associated with
processing and using it.
2. Understand the types of analytics and the analytic techniques that can be applies to Big
Data
3. Understand the associated storage and programming systems used with Big Data
4. Through focused projects, apply some of the analytical techniques to large data sets
There is no course currently offered at GW that provides a comprehensive discussion of the concepts, theory and tools used in the broad field of data analytics and big data with the target audience of computer scientists who have the prior knowledge of computer and information systems.
