Advanced undergraduate study of South Asian art, architecture, and visual and material culture. Topics vary by semester. May be repeated for credit provided topic differs. Consult the Schedule of Classes for more details.
As a result of completing this course, students will be able to: 1. achieve familiarity with diverse visual and material culture from South Asia; 2. incorporate histories of South Asian objects into broader understandings of art history; 3. analyze and evaluate narrative structures found on many objects from South Asia using knowledge of both theoretical and historical texts; 4. and create compelling written and oral arguments for interpreting a diverse number of South Asian objects.
