Introduction to the art, architecture, and visual culture of the Indian subcontinent from ancient to contemporary periods. Topics vary by semester. May be repeated for credit provided the topic differs. See department for more details.
As a result of completing this course, students will be able to: 1. achieve familiarity with the history of painting from South Asia; 2. incorporate histories of South Asian painting into broader understandings of South Asian art history; 3. analyze and evaluate a diverse range of images using knowledge of both theoretical and historical texts; 4. and create compelling written and oral arguments for interpreting South Asian objects.
