Designing and building a mechatronic system based around a programmable microcontroller; using sensors and actuators to create devices capable of sensing their surrounding environment and reacting to stimuli from that environment. Corequisite: MAE 6194.
Design and build their own mechatronic devices by: o Picking appropriate sensors and actuators for a given task o Connecting devices to a microcontroller in a safe and robust manner • Program microcontrollers to: o Communicate with host computer o Interface with off-the-shelf electrical components via digital and analog I/O or standard serial communications protocols o Use transistor circuits to amplify microprocessor signals where necessary o Use filters to condition signals to be read by microprocessor. • Read data sheets for various electrical components and learn their function and interface.
