The defining properties of and uses for financial derivatives. Institutional features; forward and futures contracts, option contracts, and swap agreements; and valuation methodologies. The proper use of financial derivatives and the potential for unintended consequences.
At the end of this course, students will: 1. Understand the features and characteristics of financial derivatives. 2. Understand the uses of financial derivatives. 3. Be aware of the risks involved with financial derivatives. 4. Be able to value a wide range of financial derivatives. 5. Have enhanced analytical thinking, logic, and quantitative problem-solving skills.
