Introduction to working with clay as an art form; fundamental hand-building techniques such as pinch, coil, and slab; basic surface, glaze, and firing techniques. Introductory history of ceramics. Materials fee.
- Develop a familiarity with clay and an understanding of the process used to create ceramic objects - Leave this class with the ability to construct detailed, high quality ceramic objects utilizing the basic hand building techniques: pinch, coil and slab - Have the general understanding of glazing and kiln firing by finishing assigned studio projects - Have the understanding of the basic chemistry of ceramics - Demonstrate an understanding and use of terminology specific to the ceramic studio use - Display fundamental knowledge of ceramic history
