Dual Master of Arts in the Field of Applied Economics and Graduate Certificate in Data Science
This note sets out a proposed curriculum for students who wish to pursue a certificate in Data Science after or while earning the MA in Applied Economics. The Applied Economics MA requires completing 30 credits in 6 core courses (18 credits) and electives (with a total of 12 credits). At least two electives must be in Economics.
The core applied economics courses are:
- ECON 6300 Mathematical Methods for Economics
- ECON 6301 Applied Microeconomic Theory
- ECON 6305 Applied Macroeconomic Theory
- ECON 6374 Probability and Statistics for Economics
- ECON 6375 Applied Econometrics
- ECON 6376 Time Series Analysis
Students may choose electives from specific applied economics courses, 6000-level courses in economics, and from the GW’s graduate schools of public policy, business, public health, and engineering and applied science. Other electives are subject to approval by the Director.
The Data Science Graduate Certificate requires completing 4 courses, 2 of which (6 credits) can be used to meet elective requirements for the Applied Economics M.A. A student pursuing both degrees would be able to complete both programs by completing 36 credits.
